It's Your Cooperative

Your Community and Runestone Electric Association

Your cooperative has a vested interest in the rural communities we serve. In addition to providing the basic service of electricity, we also look for opportunities to make our service area a better place to live. One way to accomplish this is through programs such as Community Watch.

Community Watch was developed around the employees of the cooperative with the cooperation of area law enforcement officials. It is designed to assist the public in times of need using the assets and training of our employees and our two-way communications. Under the Community Watch Program our employees will be available to:

A) Assist at the scene of an accident using our two-way communications to summon help, provide basic first aid, and direct traffic, if required.

B) Utilize our two-way communications to inform appropriate law enforcement agencies of any suspected illegal or unusual activities that might be noticed by our crews in their day-to-day traveling.

C) Severe Weather - The employees have been trained by the National Weather Service to serve as spotters, reporting any threatening weather conditions they may encounter.

D) General Assistance - Cooperative employees will use our communications to provide general roadside assistance to call for help as needed.

Runestone employees drive hundreds of thousands of miles in our service territory each year, at all times of the day and night. We are out in all sorts of bad weather conditions and are in a unique position to report what we see and assist where there is need. Our employees are among the most safety conscious folks you could imagine, and are extensively trained in first aid. We have mobile phones in our line trucks, so the use of the "911" system is available to us.

Community Watch will use all of these assets, our First Aid/CPR training, weather spotter training, our communications and our exposure to the service area, to provide assistance to the public when needed and if we are able.
